Jordan helps Wizards to much-needed win

Two days after questioning the hearts of his younger Washington Wizards team mates, 40-year-old Michael Jordan received plenty of help in a 106-105 victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday.

It was a much-needed win for Washington, which is chasing the Milwaukee Bucks for the last play-off berth in the Eastern Conference.

Jerry Stackhouse, who was a perfect 15-of-15 from the free-throw line, poured in 31 points to top the Wizards, with Larry Hughes getting 20.

Jordan had 23 points despite turning over the ball a career-worst nine times.

NBA scoring leader Tracy McGrady notched 43 points for Orlando on 16-of-26 shooting. The Magic had won eight of their previous 10 games.

HEAT 77 CAVALIERS 75

In Cleveland, the Miami Heat handed the Cavaliers their league-worst 53rd defeat of the season, winning 77-75 despite notching just 10 fourth-quarter points.

Travis Best was best of the Heat with 16 points. Mike James added 10, including a couple of last-second free throws.

Ricky Davis had 19 points for the lowly Cavs, who were missing rookie Dajuan Wagner because of a sprained knee.

HORNETS 81 PACERS 71

In Indianapolis, New Orleans held the struggling Indiana Pacers to 12 fourth-quarter points as the Hornets powered to an 81-71 triumph.

Baron Davis notched 20 points to pace New Orleans, with Jamal Mashburn adding 16.Al Harrington had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who have dropped 11 of their last 12 games.

Indiana lost for only the fifth time at home this season.
