July 17, 2003 21:56 IST

Mohun Bagan returned to their winning ways, edging past Bhratri Sangha 1-0 while Mohammedan Sporting got the better of West Bengal Police 2-0 in the Kolkata Super Division Football league matches on Thursday.

Brazilian Jose Barreto scored the only goal of the match, off a Marcos Pereira pass in the first half injury time to take Bagan's points 16 from seven outings.

In the other game at the Salt Lake stadium, Dipendu Biswas struck a brace to ensure three points for Sporting.

After a barren opening half, Biswas struck the first goal from a penalty in the 55th minute, and consolidated his team's position by finding the target again 10 minutes later.

Mohammedan now have nine points from four matches.
