Rani to get medals back on Feb 4

January 30, 2003 21:15 IST

Exonerated of doping charges, distance runner Sunita Rani will get the medals she won at the Asian Games back next week at a "grand" ceremony in Delhi.

"Sunita Rani, who was given a clean chit by various national and international bodies, will be given back her gold and bronze medals that she won at the Busan Asian Games in September last year," the Amateur Athletic Federation of India said in a statement on Thursday.

"The AAFI is organising 'Restoration of Medals' ceremony on February 4," the statement added.

The Olympic Council of Asia, which had stripped the athlete of her medals after she tested "positive", has already returned the medals to the AAFI for restoration.
