Indians crash at All-England badminton

The Indian challenge in the All-England badminton championships ended on the first day itself, with all its four singles contestants crashing out in the opening round on Wednesday.

Abhinn Shyam Gupta, Chetan Anand and Nikhil Kanetkar, in the men's section, and Aparna Popat, in the women's, failed to make it to the second round, losing to fancied opponents.

In the men's singles, Gupta lost to Shon Seung-Mo of Korea 15-5, 15-5 while Anand was beaten by Wu Yunyong 15-9, 15-6.

Kanetkar put up a better showing than Gupta and Anand before going down to Hidetaka Yamada over three games at 15-8, 7-15, 15-6

In the women's singles, Popat lost to Judith Meulendiiks 11-4, 8-11, 13-10.
