Olsson wins triple jump

Christian Olsson of Sweden won the gold medal in the men's triple jump at the World Athletics Championships, at the Stade de France in Paris, on Monday.

The 23-year-old leapt to a distance of 17.72 metres in his first attempt, which proved the best of his six jumps, to emerge triumphant.

Betanzos Toandri of Cuba took second place with a season's best distance of 17.28 metres while Sands Leevan of the Bahamas won the bronze, clearing 17.26 metres.

Defending champion Jonathan Edwards withdrew from the event after jumping twice, He recorded 14.06 metres and 16.31m respectively in each jump.
