Three-member team for Jr Davis Cup

India's three-member junior Davis Cup team has set its sights on a place among the world's 16 elite nations, by finishing in the top four in the Junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania round in Jakarta, Indonesia, starting on April 29.

The Indian contingent, spearheaded by Sanam Singh, includes Rupesh Roy, Sumit Gupta and captain Mayur Vasant.

Twenty-one Asian and Oceanic nations will compete for four places, alotted to the region by the International Tennis Federation, in the Davis Cup fnal, to be held at Germany in September.

Downplaying any fears of SARS, the team promised a good show.

"I am not too concerned about the epidemic. It is a great honour to play for the country in such a significant international event and I am fully geared up for it," Sanam said.

The teams will be drawn into four groups with the top two in each qualifying for the quarter-finals. The semi-finalists will be playing in Germany.

The Indian girls' juniors team will fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to take part in the Asia-Oceania qulifying round for the Junior Fed Cup 2003. The three-member team, led by captain Sunil Yajaman, includes Tara Iyer, Sanaa Bhambri and Kartik Bhatt in the line-up.
