JCT down Bagan 1-0

April 09, 2003 20:33 IST

JCT, Phagwara, scored early in the first session to beat Mohun Bagan 1-0 in a 19th round match, in the seventh National Football league at the Guru Nanak stadium in Ludhiana on Wednesday.

With this victory, JCT earned three points and took their tally to 34, while Mohan Bagan have 29 points and share the fifth spot with Dempo.

Despite some lively exchanges both the teams failed to score in the first session. But five minutes into the second session, Joe Paul Ancheri stunned Bagan custodian Bibash Ghosh with a header to put the home side ahead.

Trailing by a goal, Bagan pressed hard for the equaliser but failed to break through the solid JCT defence.

JCT will not take on Dempo in Ludhiana on April 13.
