Sporting Clube, Mohd. Sporting score big wins

April 03, 2003 23:44 IST

Haywards Sporting Clube de Goa and Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata, are poised to move into the second leg of the Second Division National Football League. They scored easy victories over Titanium, Kerala, 7-2, and Manipur Police 7-0 respectively at the J R D Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Thursday.

Sporting Clube shot into the lead through Augustine Rodrigues in the 10th minute but Titanium striker Ebin Rose restored parity through a long ranger in the 32nd minute.

But the Goa side called the shots thereafter, and their foreign recruit skipper Dudu Macpherlin scored five goals, including four in a row. Dudu scored a hat-trick before the lemon break as the team crossed over at the breather 4-1 ahead.

Dudu struck again in 57th minutes and Amacchi Tuchuknu completed the rout in the 69th minute.

Trailing 6-1, the Titanium players sweated it out for a reducer, which came through Abdul Hameed in the 84th minute.

In the 80th minute, the referee gave Titanium's K P Sabeer marching orders for violent conduct.

In an another Group 'B' tie, Manipur Police proved no match for Mohammedan Sporting.

Midfielder Gojndu Biswas scored the first goal for Mohammedans in the 16th minute while their overseas player Awal Ibrahim struck thrice (19th, 43rd and 56th minutes).

Rahim Nabi (42nd minute) and substitute Khemtang Paite were the other scorers for Mohammedan Sporting.

At the end of Round IV of the first leg, Mohammedan Sporting and Sporting Clube lead the table with ten points each. Both teams have played four matches, winning three and drawing one each.
