Cedric D'Souza to coach Greece

Former India hockey coach Cedric D'Souza, dumped by the Indian Hockey Federation during the 2002 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, has a new job. He's been appointed national coach of Greece, hosts of the 2004 Olympic Games.

D'Souza, who had also coached the Indian team for the 1994 Sydney World Cup and 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where India finished fifth and eighth respectively, confirmed that he accepted the job of preparing Greece's men's and women's national teams for the next Olympics.

Greece have to go through the qualifying process. The men's team has to play for the 12th place while the women have to play for the 10th..

It is learnt that D'Souza, who after the Atlanta Olympics was appointed Executive Director (Planning and Coaching) by the IHF, is waiting for clearence from his employers Air India.

D'Souza was dumped in the wake of the team's poor showing in the World Cup, after it lost three of the first four matches it played. The team had lost to Korea, Malaysia and England after drawing with Japan in their opening match of the tournament.
