Aussie team for Davis Cup tie against India named

World No.1 Lleyton Hewitt, Wayne Arthurs [ranked 51 in singles], Scott Draper [141] and Todd Woodbridge [ranked 5 in doubles] were named in the Australian Davis Cup team that will play against India in the Davis Cup World group playoff tie at Memorial Drive in Adelaide, September 20-22.

Ryan Henry and Victorian Peter Luczak will accompany the team as practice players.

Mark Philippoussis, who injured his knee at the US Open, is out of the team.

The tie begins on Friday, September 20 while the draw to announce the nominated singles and doubles players and the order of play will be held on Thursday, September 19.

Wayne Arthurs and Todd Woodbridge would probably form the doubles combination, while Wayne Arthurs or Scott Draper will play the second singles.

The Indian team will not be confirmed until late Wednesday, but is likely to include Mahesh Bhupathi, Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna, Sunil Kumar Sipaeya or Harsh Mankad.

There will be eight playoff ties played during the weekend among the eight first round losers of World Group 2002 and eight teams advancing from the regional group-1. They will fight for the eight spots available for the World Group in 2003.
