Seeded players storm into last four

Seeded players, including top seed Tzipi Obziler of Isreal and third seed Adriana Barna of Germany, sailed into the women's singles semi-finals with authoritative victories in the $25,000 ITF tennis tournament in Mumbai on Thursday.

In quarter-final action, top seed Obziler needed an hour and ten minutes to sideline German qualifier Varana Marie Beller 6-3, 6-0, while Barna needed a second set tie-break to oust unseeded Napaporn Tongsalee of Thailand 6-3, 7-6(7-4).

In the other two quarter-finals, fourth seed Dominika Luzarova of Czech Republic pipped sixth seed Jin-Hee Kim of Korea 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in two hours 35 minutes while unseeded Suchanan Viratptasert of Thailand crushed another unseeded player, Scarlett Werner of Germany 6-0, 6-1 in just 55 minutes.

In the doubles quarter-finals, Jolande Mens/Andrea Van Den Hurk (Ned) beat Kateryna Bondarenko (Ukr)/Pemra Ozgen (Tur) 6-2, 6-2; Katarina Daskovic (Yug)/Tzipi Obziler (Isr) beat Jin-Hee Kim/Kyung Mi Chang (Kor) 4-6, 7-5, 6-1; Olena Antypina (Ukr)/Dominika Luzarova (Cze) bt Chantal Coombs/Karen Paterson (GBR) 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
