Portland duo Stoudamire, Wallace charged over drugs

Damon Stoudamire and Rasheed Wallace of the Portland Trail Blazers were charged with misdemeanor drug possession after a small amount of marijuana was found in their vehicle, police said on Friday.

The two players were riding in Stoudamire's Humvee, driven by another person, when a patrolman stopped it for speeding in Centralia, halfway between Portland and Seattle. The Trail Blazers had played in Seattle Thursday, winning 89-85.

The officer noted a strong marijuana smell coming from the vehicle and later found less than 40 grams of the drug in a bag in the glove box.

Stoudamire and Wallace were released on their agreement to appear for arraignment on December 6, according to Lewis County prosecuting attorney Jeremy Randolph.

Stoudamire and his father were charged with felony marijuana possession last February. The charges were dropped after a judge ruled that a pound (0.45 kg) of the drug found in Stoudamire's home could not be used as evidence, since police had found it during a burglar alarm call.

Trail Blazers general manager Bob Whitsitt issued a statement saying he was disappointed by the allegations and would take "appropriate action" if Wallace or Stoudamire were found guilty.

Wallace, 28, is the Trail Blazers's leading scorer and rebounder so far this year, while Stoudamire, 29, leads the team in assists.
