Mukesh Kumar wins Royal Challenge golf

Pre-tournament favourite Mukesh Kumar bagged his sixth title in seven tournaments he's played so far when he won the second leg of the Royal Challenge Grand Prix golf championsip at the Tollygunge Club Course in Kolkata on Friday.

The final day's proceedings witnessed an exciting finish, as Digvijay Singh carded a string of four birdies early in the final round to put some pressure on Mukesh, who won the tournament with a total of 16-under par 264.

Inspite of a final round 65, Digvijay had to be content with a second place finish, while Amritinder Singh finished third.

"I am happy with my performance this week," Mukesh said, adding "even though I have won the tournament, the scores are more important as they are proof of the good golf that one has to play to win, even on our tour."

Starting the day tied for second place at ten-under-par, defending champion Rafiq Ali and Amritinder Singh had mixed luck.

Amritinder bogeyed the first, picked up a birdie on the second but dropped another shot on the third. He then birdied the fifth but bogeyed the sixth to get back to nine-under. Two following birdies, on the seventh and eighth holes, saw him move up to 11-under. He then birdied the tenth to get to 12-under-par and carded pars in the last eight holes to finish third, one stroke behind Digvijay.
