Salgaocar halt ITI's winning run

Former champions Salgaocar halted Indian Telephones Industries' winning run, defeating them 3-0 to move to the top of the table in the 6th edition of theNational Football League at the Nehru Stadium in Margao on Wednesday.

Salgaocar, who dominated the first half, got the first goal in the 36th minute through Alvito D'cunha.

ITI forced Salgaocar on the defensive early in the second half but received a jolt in the last ten minutes when striker Kenneth Onu limped out of the ground due to leg injury. As a result, ITI had to play with ten men as they had finished their quota of three subsitutions.

Salgaocar capitalised on the advantage and after missing two easy chances pumped in two goals in the dying moments of the game to seal the fate of ITI.

Salgaocar, who have 12 points from seven matches, move to the top of the table displacing Mahindra United on account of superior goal difference.

United though have a game in hand.

ITI, who lost their first match, remained on 10 points from seven matches and are placed fourth.
