BCCI to submit report by July 27

The government will act against the Board of Control for Cricket in India on alleged irregularities only after perusal of its report, likely to be submitted by this month end, Union Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said on Monday.

Talking to reporters in Coimbatore, Dhindsa said that the board had promised to submit the report on its financial dealings and code of conduct for players by July 27.

The minister was responding to a question on initiating action against the board for its alleged irregularities in financial matters raised from certain quarters in the wake of the match-fixing controversy, involving former and present Indian cricketers.

He said he had met the board officials on April 27 and asked them to submit a detailed report within three months.

On the claim by the players that they are 'clean,' Dhindsa said, 'The matter is being investigated by CBI.'

However, he reiterated that the government will take a lenient view if the players confess about their 'dealings'.

Saying that the people and the media were giving more prominence to cricket, Dhindsa said that his ministry is taking steps to give more importance to other sports.
