Message:The betting thing has been going on for some time now. It's a very contentious issue and it's high time that ICC came out with some sort of stubborn decisions. If a player is found guilty, he should be banned for life as cricket does not need people who have no regard and pride for their country. But above all, this whole thing of betting scandal needs to be properly monitored and in this regard ICC should act as soon as possible.

All this talk about taped conversations not holding good in the court of law may help the offenders, but the same makes no sense to the public. The public will punish the cricketers in its own way, and the biggest loser shall be the ga,me of cricket.
The culprits (cricketers included) should be taken to task and no mercy should be shown to anybody. Now, it is a golden opportunity for the ICC to support the law enforcing authorities, and show its mettle. This is the least these Cricketing executives can do for the public, to assuage their feelings and keep their interest going.

Discipline has to be imbibed in every player. What is in society reflects everywhere ? Let us not take a high pedestal on this moral issue. ICC has to come up with definite plan to erradicate this disease. Handig over the India match fixing allegation to BCCI, Paki to PCB and australian to ACB won't help. They are not going to implicate the players. But can we expect any tough stance from the current non-performing, timid, irresponsible chairman of ICC. I don't think betting can be totally eradicated in the near future but atleast the players can bring it to the notice of their cricket boards and their opponent's cricket board immediatley if any of them were contacted by some unknown person, so that appropriate action can be taken against them.

Message:I think there is conclusive
evidence that the South Africans
are guilty. Yet, I am almost
sure that nothing will come of it.
This is because of the following
reasons:
a) Dalmiya's masterly inaction
- The man is only interested
in being remembered as the guy
under whom the ICC made the most
profit and players played 365 days
of cricket every year. As long
as he can be in power he is happiest
when there are no controversies
or for that matter even healthy
debates. Least concerned about
taking the game in a positive direction,
the marwari from Calcutta is
a status quoist of an extrordinary
sort besides being a guy with
no conviction. His fence sitting
and fear of upsetting South
African big wigs whose support
(read benign indifference)
he wishes to cultivate. The
usual bureacuractic platitudes
that we are sick to our
gills of will continue to be mouthed and
Cronje and the others will
continue to play cricket. He will
say that the ICC cannot take
a decision till the courts
offer a verdict.
b) The Indian Legal System and
other legal tangles - Where
is this case to be decided?
Can the South Africans hire
their own lawyers, who may not
be Indian citizens (currently
not allowed, and the subject
of contention)? They will
surely appeal. Where does
interpol fit it? The case will
go around in circles for years
and people will lose interest
after a while - like they did
in the Bofors case, the Anti-Sikh riots
case, the Shah Bano case, the
Harshad Mehta scam, the communal
riots and Babri Masjid demolition
cases and a million others...
c) Rich corrupt politicians
will come to the rescue of
the bookies. Miraculously
cases will be dropped for want
of evidence, witnesses turning
hostile, prosecuted claiming
heart trouble and exemption -
all the b grade tricks in the book
that our paper tiger politicians
regularly use to stay away from court because
they are scared.
d) The dynamic of race that exists
in the world of cricket -
White is right is still very much
the motto if you see the actions
of most white players and administrators in the game.
Whatever differences, the white
teams of the world may have
with each other, in situations
like these they stick with
each other. Which is why the
Darell Hairs of the world
flourish. I believe once Cronje
had flung a wicket through the
dressing room door in anger..
Nothing happened. And we all
remember Allan Donald's charming
outburst against Dravid when
the latter rammed him for a
six back over his head. Nothing
happened.
Yet, let one white umpire or
referee mark Murali, Akthar,
Chauhan and a host of white players
indirectly vet the man's decision
by suggesting that they too
think these players are guilty.
Solidarity with non white players
- zero...
e) Legal Systems anywhere in
the world.
OJ Simpson was guilty as Cronje
is. Simpson got away. So will
Cronje and his fellow crooks.
Finally, the case will be not just
about Cronje but about the ICC,
the magnificently useless Dalmiya
and the Indian legal system...
Nothing will happen, revealing
the ineffectuality of the latter
two above. Cricket will be the
shameful loser.
Cronje killed a little girl once by accident,
now he has killed cricket by deliberation. His
hypocrisy ("I believe in God. I believe in the Bible. I am an honest
man") has been exposed. It is
a strange kind of faith which
allows you to fix matches and appear
pious at the same time. It is
the same kind of faith that
allowed whites to poach other
people's land and create apartheid.
in the name of God. It is the
faith of the white man.
Cronje's crookedness is
nothing but history repeating
itself. And the black man
will lose again, as Cronje will walk
away scot free and will soon
give interviews saying how his
"God" helped him to hold his head
high while these accusations
were flung at him. Probably
on the same day he will meet
bookies and take more money
for fixing more matches. And so
life will go on.

Tough it was said only half seriously, little did one know that the words were correct. If u remember the catch the Klusner dropped of Robin Singh, when India was just about to lose ,you will see what I mean. Even in the first match, which India won, Kronje did not give enough bowling to his key bowlers. I remember being very very surprised and exclaiming the same loudly many times. Now I know the reason.
While we as a nation passionate about Cricket, view the gamed as a sacred area, we must remember that most of the Cricketeers today are `Professional Cricketeers' . The game is just like any other job or business for them. So while we feel that the players fixing matches bring disrepute to the game, they are sinning no more than a corpoarte executive who takes money from the suppliers, or the Businessman, who evades taxes.

I am suddenly plagued with a feeling of extreme doubt and remorse about all the time, effort and money that I had ever invested in watching cricket, idolising cricketers. Today I am so disgusted that I am sure I am never never again going to watch any cricket or read anything about cricket. I have very recently shifted to Seoul, South Korea and used to play for my University some years ago. Following cricket was one of the most important things which connected me to back home, but now I guess I will need to look for some other outlet.
Let all these @*@** whether they are South Africans, Indians, Pakistanis or Australians die a dogs death. All the players involved in this kind of a scam even though these same palyers might be revered as God, they still deserve to be shot dead or butchered in public for the crime of bringing to disrepute the most fairest game of them all.
Imagine in our country there are millions who are forever following cricket with their heart and soul. As much as we are surprised that it is Hansie being implicated, Delhi police is also quite capable of springing a surprise with soem outrageously flimsy evidence. I am not so easily prepared to judge him guilty. The question is why would Hansie do that, inspite of the South African cricket board indicating several times that the punishment would be severe if they found anyone indulging in these kinds of things. It could be that this is quite an established practice with several players fom other countries indulging in it and Hansie felt safe that he would not be singled out alone. Which could be a even more severe problem with the game in general. The ICC keeping mum on this matter and even being defensive, plus the fact that the person heading it is an Indian politician doesnt rule out the possibility to me that some senior ICC officials themselves could have been in the know of the general state of affairs. They are merely at the moment trying to control the damage. For Jagmohan Dalmiya to say that there is nothing to worry and that they have their own way of dealing with this is absolutely outrageous. I cant imagine FIFA saying this if such a thing happened in football. Either Hansie is innocent in which case the country will have mud on its face and we will never be able to walk with our heads held straight, or several heads will roll at all levels if he is guilty.

What was clean was the reputation of the team altogether because nobody in his wildest dream could have thought that the majority of the players donning their country colours could have a price for which they could sell their countries.
On introspection when one looks at those world cup matches between south africa and australia ,one can no longer be fooled by the fact that those matches were not golden moments of cricket but already predecied by the greed of some individuals. When u think of the dropped catch by gibbs which was unbeleivable you know the answer as to why such simple catch was dropped.
So many golden moments of international cricket were no doubt farce but they were guided by the bookies around the world not by the players who played in the field.
Nothing can be more treacherous than one selling his country's pride, one selling his people's trust for few thousand or million dollars. The crime commited is no less than a treasion against one's country and deserves a punishment which would deter other such acts in the future.
At the same time the old files and allegation should be given a new look and ICC has to be very clear in its objective that the guilty have to be punished severely and that unlike past no attempts should be made to cover up the guilty.abhijeet
I do not belive this. If Hansie is quilty, then there is not hope for cricket. He has been a shining example of gentelmanship and one of the best ammbasdors of game.

Message:I feel that these days watching cricket as a game of entertainment is a sheer waste of time. Instead if a person wants entertainment , he/she should go to watch movie or other such recriatment. It has all happened in the last two decades when the number of playing matches has been increased. Cricket has became a game of betting, whether is it the selection of a player or game playing is concerned. So, time suggests that instead of wasting an entire day on cricket one should utilize that day or prefer other entertainments which is a worth! Phew!

Message:I don't think a complete clean-up is possible.
However, as much as possible should be done and
players penalised (of course, the punishment is
banned for life from cricket) to at least
instill fear among other players.
Otherwise, the interest in cricket will wane.
For example, I always knew that Pakistan is a
highly inconsistent team. But after the
allegations, there is always a doubt that
the team has been bought over whenever they
collapse. And, it more and more people start
suspecting more and more teams, it is not going to
be good for cricket. And the ICC, what the
hell are they doing ? I don't believe
they can do anything about this, not much.
An agency with a lot more teeth should handle this issue.
