Howard Block of the Bank of America Securities describes eLearning succinctly as "the convergence of learning and the Internet". It is a method of teaching that can be conducted through different modes - an Intranet, Internet or network.

Unlike the textbook based method of disseminating information, eLearning can include audio, video and animation in a virtual environment. It is also a self-paced and more hands-on approach than the one adopted in classrooms.

WEB RESOURCES:

You can launch your eLearning experience with this FAQ explaining the concept, how it works and trends involved. This page explains the process and benefits, while this glossary should also help you understand commonly used terms.

ELearning resources like learnativity and Internet time also offer links to articles, books, white papers and statistics.

The eLearning forum based in California attempts to provide an understanding of this concept in industry and governments the world over, and also identify new developments in the field. Here is where you can find related reports from a number of countries to give you a broader perspective.

Bubbles recommends eLearning mag and this feature titled 'Can you succeed as a cyberstudent' that discusses the learning method and its potential for the future. Yet another site talks about how this emerging market will influence the school, work place and home.

If you are wondering about the effectiveness of eLearning, you can read about how corporations are turning to the concept for training problems and why students are crowding e-classrooms.

Finally, if you want to have your say about whether or not people are ready for this method of teaching and imparting information, try this receptiveness survey. Bubbles has already cast his vote and, not surprisingly, is all for online learning. Anything to avoid turning up at school, he says!
