I spotted Bubbles furiously flipping the pages of my old diary yesterday trying to find a 'metre' to 'inch' conversion table. I showed him the easy way using online conversion sites and needless to say, he was fascinated.
There are many conversion sites available online and whether you are looking for converters for currency, distance, time or area, you won't be disappointed. That's all we've been doing since yesterday - looking up these sites, particularly the fun ones! I still haven't found one where I can convert Bubbles into a nice, fluffy dog…
WEB RESOURCES:
Online Conversions helps you convert anything to anything and that includes length, distance, temperature, volume, light and area. Very easy to use, all you have to do is key in the amount and choose the conversion parameters.
For currency conversion, you can use Oanda, available in 7 languages. You can also compare by checking rates for another day. Another useful tool is the Universal Currency Converter.
Here is a very easy-to-use metric calculator. All you have to do is key in your number in one field and press 'calculate'. The results are displayed immediately. For example, Bubbles keys in his weight (12 kilos at present) and gets the results in pounds - 26.455.
How much is a hair's width? Try Units of Measurement which has an extensive dictionary explaining units like stones, yard, erg and mach.
Another conversion and calculation centre has
resources on measurement conversion, world time zones, currency exchange rates, calculators among its features.
This one is a favourite with Bubbles since he often uses it to do his chemistry homework. The Periodic Table of Elements allows you to click on any element to get its element name, atomic number, weight, melting point and boiling point.
If all this is getting serious try the retirement conversion. You have to fill in the date you want to retire and it will tell you the number of working days you have left. Mine was a rather depressing number, so I won't mention it.
'Day owKnay isway inway away eryvay oodgay oodmay odaytay.' Not Latin, but Pig Latin for 'Dr Know is in a very good mood today'. You can convert any phrase from English to this strange but fun language. Bubbles and me spent hours here especially since we needed a good laugh!
Bubbles also insists that I find out my age in human years, if I were a dog. I know… parrots have such convoluted minds!
