It's been a slow week, really. Nothing out of the ordinary to break the monotony of living as a professional. Online, however, is always another story. People come, dotcoms go, web cams stream live executions, and junk email continues to clog the wires.
But never mind that. Since this is about picking up some good stuff for the weekend, let's start with Good Things. As if the domain name wasn't enough to tell us what to expect, these guys make their position a lot clearer with sections like 'Good Guides,' 'Good Tools,' 'Good Stories,' 'Good Work' and 'Good People.'
Almost makes me want to throw up, but I forgive all since their hearts are in the right place.
In a nutshell, the site is based on the premise that, by celebrating and supporting good things, they inspire more of them. Yeah, right. And I'm the long lost son of the Sultan of Brunei.
But mine is not to reason why. The site also functions as a virtual meeting place for those who want to create things that make a difference, share ideas, and talk about the 'goodthings' going on in our world (where? where?). Add some inspiring stories, tips, and features covering personal heroes, communities and family bonding, and you've got a 'feel-good' place to log in to, first thing every morning.
Yet another way of spending quality time daily - though some would disagree - is at the Post-It Theatre, a tremendously entertaining source of 'flip-book entertainment'. All the small movies uploaded here are hand-drawn on Post-it brand notes and then scanned, with absolutely no computer-simulated action.
Takes one back to the days before Spielberg unleashed his dinosaurs on the malleable masses.
There's also an archive of past movies, and my favourites in this section include 'Just when you thought you had it all figured out', 'The Chasm', and 'Wind 'em up'. Enjoy.
If small movies on post-it notes cramp your style, get some big-screen help using ezeetickit, courtesy IT&T Ltd. The company intends to create an online, real time, cross-locational network to sell tickets for movies. It currently lets you book your seats for this week's blockbusters, and also serves up movie reviews and theatre information to help you decide how and where to spend your money. Will it be 'Albela' or 'Kaatil Haseena'? Ah! The infinite possibilities of modern living.
On a more serious note, here's something that should make athletes sit up and take notice. Myicoach is all set to redefine what you and I thought personal coaching was all about. It promises personal attention to help athletes of all levels achieve their goals, provided the latter dedicate a mere 45 minutes of their time to work out daily.
Professional coaches -- who, they tell you, have guided teams and individuals to National Championships, and have produced lots of runners - take charge and show you how it's all done, for a price. Compared to running clubs and personal coaches that normally cost a lot more, the most expensive package at Myicoach is $100 for a four-week program. Still, for that kind of money, you had better have some potential, a la PT Usha. No point splurging if the only racing you're ever going to do is to the bathroom every morning.
Last stop on this weekly quest for physical and spiritual well-being is Gang Land News set up by Jerry Capeci, one of America's foremost experts on organised crime. Calling itself the world's most comprehensive site on the subject, it's where you get a quick peek at the country's underbelly, thanks to the column, This Week in Gang Land. You can also search for previous columns, get some daily gangster related news, information from 'pundits', notorious family histories, and links to more of the same stuff.
Enough said.
