Update: 05:00 PM: "Jammu and Kashmir is not like any other state just because over 60 per cent of people voted. It is not the end of the road. The people here have different aspirations and ambitions," says party president Mehbooba Mufti.

Update: 04:35 PM: National Conference patron and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah has been declared elected from both Hazratbal and Sonawar constituencies. Abdullah defeated his nearest PDP rival G Q Pardesi in Sonawar constituency by a margin of 200 votes.

Update: 04:33 PM: PDP suffers a shock defeat in Batmaloo constituency of Srinagar district when its former minister and General Secretary Tariq Hameed Karra is trounced by Irfan Shah of National Conference.

Update: 04:31 PM: Vikar Rasool of Congress defeats his nearest rival Shaukat Javed Dang (Independent) by a margin of 3,033 votes in Banihal assembly seat.

Update: 04:30 PM: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today retained his Bhaderwah assembly seat in Doda district. The Congress leader had earlier won from the Bhaderwah constituency in by-polls in 2006.

Update: 04:28 PM: Former deputy speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone, Aga Syed Ruhullah, Javid Ahmad Dar, Abdul Rahim Rather (all NC) have been declared elected from Sonawari, Budgam, Rafiabad and Charar-e-Sharief constituencies, respectively.

Update: 04:25 PM: Nizamuddin Bhat, Shafi Ahmad Wani, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Maulana Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Bhasharat Bukhari, Abdul Rehman Bhat alias Veeri, Javid Mustafa Mir, Syed Bashir Ahmad, Abdul Haq Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Zahoor Ahmad, Sartaj Madani (all PDP) won from Bandipora, Beerwah, Baramulla, Pattan, Sangrama, Bijbehara, Chadoora, Rajpora, Lolab, Tral, Pampore and Devsar constituencies respectively.

Update: 04:23 PM: Ghulam Hassan Mir, independent, was declared elected from Gulmarg defeating among others Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, the National Conference stalwart and younger brother of party patron Farooq Abdullah.

Update: 03:40 PM: A meeting of top Congress leaders has been convened by party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Sunday evening to deliberate on the outcome of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

Update: 03:15 PM: Sajjad Kitchloo of National Conference retains Kishtwar assembly seat, winning by 2,465 votes against BJP candidate Sunil Sharma.

Update: 03:14 PM: Ashok Kumar of Congress wins Ramban assembly constituency, defeating nearest BJP rival Bali Bhagat by 10,319 votes.

Update: 03:13 PM: NC candidate Shameema Firdous Habba Kadal defeated her nearest rival Hira Lal Chada of BJP by a margin of 1,710 votes. Firdous polled 2,374 votes, while chada got 664 votes.

Update: 02:55 PM: Former Chief Minister and NC patron Farooq Abdullah wins from Hazratbal constituency but trails in Sonawar constituency of Srinagar.

Update: 02:40 PM: Former Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed was declared elected from Kokernag constituency, defeating his immediate NC rival Ghulam Nabi Bhat by a margin of 1,246 votes. Peerzada polled 13,021 votes as against 11,775 votes by Bhat.

Update: 02:38 PM: PDP's Mohammad Rafi Mir defeated nearest rival and Congress candidate Abdul Gani Bhat in Pahalgam constituency by a margin of 8,782 votes.

Update: 02:35 PM: National Conference candidate Kafeel-ur-Rehman wins from Karnah constituency, defeating A R Badana of Awami National Conference by a margin of 1,149 votes.

Update: 02:25 PM: BJP candidate Bharat Bushan wins Domana seat, defeating Congress nominee and former Minister Mula Ram by a margin of 12,269 vote. Bushan polled 28,685 votes as against Ram's 16,416 votes.

Update: 02:20 PM: Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ashok Khajuria wins Jammu (East) assembly constituency by a margin of over 10,000 votes.

Update: 02:18 PM: National Conference candidate Mubarak Gul was elected to Jammu and Kashmir assembly from Eidgah constituency, defeating his PDP rival Arifa Tariq Karra by a margin of 1,679 votes. Gul polled 4,457 votes, while PDP nominee got 2,778 votes.

Update: 02:15 PM: PDP candidate Abdul Gaffar Sofi retained Homshalibugh constituency, defeating his National Conference rival by a margin of 5,055 votes. Sofi got 12,225 votes as against 7,170 by NC's Abdul Majid Bhat.

Update: 02:05 PM: Former Minister and PDP candidate Abdul Aziz Zargar suffered defeat at the hands of NC candidate Sakeena Itoo in Noorabad constituency. He lost by a margin of 4,355 votes.

Update: 01:58 PM: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti wins from Wachi constituency, defeating Shoukat Hussain Ganai of National Conference by a margin of over 8,000 votes. Mehbooba, a sitting Lok Sabha member from Anantnag-Pulwama parliamentary constituency, polled 12,808 votes while her NC rival got 4,420 votes.

Update: 01:54 PM: Yashpal Kundal of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party wins Samba assembly constituency, defeating his nearest BJP rival Satwant Kour by a margin of 1,989 votes.

Update: 01:52 PM: National Conference's Nasir Aslam Wani alias Sogami defeats his nearest PDP rival Parvaiz Ahmad by a margin of 874 votes.

Update: 01:50 PM: Ali Mohammad Sagar of National Conference trounces PDP's Shoukat Ahmad Hafiz in Khanyar constituency by a margin of 5507 votes.

Update: 01:40 PM: BJP's Baldev Raj Sharma defeats former minister and Congress candidate Jugal Kishore Sharma in Reasi assembly constituency by a margin of 6,662 votes.

Update: 13:38 PM: Results of five seats are out. The NC, headed by Omar Abdullah, has won three seats and is ahead in 23 of the 87 seats.

Update: 13:25 PM: "We owe a lot to militant organisations, who did not use the gun because in case they had used the gun, we would have been in trouble. I think Pakistan did put pressure on them that they should not do anything to affect the elections," says former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

Update: 13:05 PM: Former Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed wins from Anantnag constituency, defeating his nearest rival Mehboob Beig of National Conference by a margin of over 5,000 votes. Sayeed polled 12,417 votes as against 7,136 polled by Beig.

Update: 12:50 PM: Former PCC chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed is leading by 1,394 votes over an independent Abdul Salam Reshi. Sayeed polled 4411 votes, while Reshi got 3017 votes.

Update: 12:45 PM: Former minister Choudhary Ajaz Ahmed Khan of Congress defeats Ghulam Qadir Mughal of NC by a margin of 3,452 votes in Gool-arnas constituency assembly seat.

Update: 11:35 AM: In Noorabad, PDP veteran Abdul Aziz Zargar is leading over his nearest National Conference rival Sakeena Itoo. Zargar polled 3,979 votes in the first round, while Itoo got 3,253 votes.

Update: 11:35 AM: PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti are leading from Anantnag and Wachi constituencies respectively. In the first round, Sayeed polled 3,483 votes against NC candidate Mehboob Baig, who got 1,994 votes.

Update: 11:06 AM: Large turnout means anti-incumbency. So it is natural for the National Conference, as the largest party with the largest cadres, to benefit from this, says Omar Abdullah.
