12 Indians booked for rioting in New Jersey

In a disturbing incident, 12 Indian youth were arrested on March 13, and charged with possession of weapons for unlawful purposes and rioting in Old Bridge Township in New Jersey.

Nine of them were charged as adults. Three juveniles were released into the custody of their parents.

Five of the arrested are from Carteret, New Jersey: Vishav Narwaha, 19, Gurdeep Singh, 18, Nirmal Singh, 18, and Navjot Aujla, 21, Gurmaninder Singh, 20.

Four are from Richmond Hills and Bellerose in Queens, New York: Jasdeep Shina, 18, Arminder Singh 22, Jaswinder Singh, 19, Davinder Singh, 19.

Bail for them was set at $50,000. The juveniles were aged 16 and 17 and hailed from Carteret.

Police arrived in the area of the London [Images] Terrace Apartments and the Parkwood Apartments at around 9 pm after several 911 calls that reported a fight involving several people.

Patrolman Michael Snee, who arrived soon, saw two cars leave the area, a 2005 Lincoln Town Car and a 2002 Toyota [Images] Camry [Images]. Police found the vehicles at the TGI Friday's parking lot on Route 9. Officer Snee saw a man with blood on his hands and a black metal bar with chains attached, reports said.

Meanwhile, police also got information from Raritan Bay Medical Centre in Old Bridge about people being treated in the emergency ward for non-life threatening injuries.

Soon, police arrested the 12 occupants of the two cars and recovered several weapons, including bars, chains and baseball bats.
