With the United States leaning on it, Pakistan on Wednesday sang a different tune saying it was prepared to take forward "information" provided by India on the Mumbai terror attacks [Images] to uncover the "full facts" and claimed for the first time "progress" in its own investigations. The Pakistani leadership, after days of being in a denial mode, spoke of "ensuring" that perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks are "brought to justice".
"Our own investigations into Mumbai (attacks) have progressed. We have received some information of an interim nature on Indian investigations. We are prepared to take this process forward with a view to uncovering the full facts, thus ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous crime, whosoever they may be, are brought to justice," Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani [Images] said.
Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said the information provided by India is being "seriously examined" to uncover the complete facts and establish evidence that will stand up to legal scrutiny.
Also coming out with placatory remarks was the powerful ISI chief Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha who ruled out a war with India and said terrorism, not that country, was the prime enemy.
