Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] to immediately intervene into the situation arising out of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena attacks on Biharis.

He also urged the PM to take action to enforce the law and prevent such violence.

In his letter, Nitish Kumar said the violence in Maharashtra unleashed by certain elements against north Indians, specifically the Hindi-speaking people, had created terror.

"This time terror has been unleashed on those examinees who had come from outside Maharashtra for writing examinations conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board,"' the chief minister said.

In the letter Nitish Kumar said he had talked to his counterpart in Maharashtra and urged him to take punitive and preventive action against elements that were out to create barriers within the country.

Nitish Kumar stated that due to the ferocity of violence and the poison of hatred, those returning from Maharashtra vent their ire and frustration on government property in Bihar.

He said the same elements had targeted students and workers of the Hindi-speaking belt.

No concrete action was taken in Maharashtra to apprehend such elements and punish them to prevent such action in the future, he said.

The lack of a clearcut and concerted action had manifested in a fresh round of violence that had been condemned all over the country, he said.
