Two top militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen [Images] were gunned down in the wee hours of Thursday by security forces in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images].

Mohammad Latief Chohan and Farooq Ahmad Chechi, both residents of Kangan, were killed in Watlar area of the district during an encounter that erupted on Wednesday night, official sources said.

Two AK 47 rifles, six magazines, 80 rounds of AK ammunition, two pouches and incriminating literature were recovered from them, they said adding search operations were on in the area.
