The Ontario government last week appointed/reappointed five Indo-Canadians to the province's boards and commissions.

There have earlier been complaints asking why minorities are not appointed to these government boards and commissions proportionate either to their population and/or proportionate to the increasing number of qualified professionals in the communities.

Ashok Koul, president and chief executive officer of Ottawa-based Life Prediction Technologies and head of the Indo-Canadian Kashmir Forum, has been appointed member of the Small Business Agency of Ontario.

Lawyer Harminder Dhillon has been appointed to the Ontario Review Board that exercises jurisdiction over individuals found by the courts to be either unfit to stand trial on account of a mental disorder or not criminally responsible on account of a mental disorder.

Dr Sumeeta Chatterjee, a staff psychiatrist at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health, has been reappointed to the Review Board.

Parminder Chahal, general manager and senior project manager with contracting firm English Prestige Project Management, has been reappointed to the Council of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the governing body for dentists in the province.

Community activist Harinder Gahir has been reappointed to the License Appeal Tribunal. He has been named vice chair of the Tribunal, a quasi-judicial body that hears appeals regarding compensation claims and licensing decisions made by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, the Ministry of Government Services and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
