Jet Airways [Get Quote] Flight 225 to Chennai was grounded in Toronto on Monday after the police received a bomb threat.

A report in Friday's National Post reveals that the police received an anonymous threat less than two hours before the Jet Airways Flight was scheduled to depart from the Pearson International Airport in Toronto. 

The Canadian daily quoted constable Adam Minnion as saying the threat -- which came at 6.21 pm on Monday -- was checked out. A thorough search of the aircraft was conducted and passengers had to wait until Tuesday for their flight.

Though the investigators were aware that it might be a hoax threat, they decided to take no chances. Hence, the flight was grounded and a thorough investigation was conducted, Minnion is quoted as saying.

"These types of things are not exclusive to airplanes," he reportedly said.  "There have been bogus bomb threats against schools but we have systems in place to deal with them".

Incidentally, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] had informed his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper that some Sikh separatists are regrouping themselves in Canada [Images] after being inactive for a long time. 

During the Baisakhi parades in Surrey (British Columbia) last year and this April, floats with posters of Talwinder Singh Parmar, Bhindarwale and others were part of the religious procession. Many consider this as a disturbing development.

Nobody from Jet Airways' offices in Toronto was available for comment.
