Three members of a family, including two minor girls, were killed and five injured in a grenade blast in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Thursday night.

The explosion occurred at the house of Mushtaq Ahmed, a Village Defence Committee member, in Suntop hamlet in Arnas block of Reasi district, Udhampur-Reasi range Deputy Inspector-General of Police Alok Puri said.

He said police were investigating whether the grenade was hurled by militants or it was an accidental explosion.

An elderly man and his two grand-daughters were killed and five other members of the family were injured in the blast, police officials said.

A police team had been rushed to spot and were taking the injured to hospital, Puri said.

The dead have been identified as Habibullah (76), Nazia (9), and Nagina (14).
