Ruling out his return to the Bharatiya Janata Party, former party ideologue K N Govindacharya on Thursday said he has decided not to tread the path which he has long quit.

"I will not count trees of mangoes and tamarind on the road which I don't want to tread," Govindacharya told reporters when asked whether he was interested in coming back to the saffron party.

He also rubbished reports that he was forced to quit the party at the behest of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajyapee, who did not like him to be branded as BJP mascot.

"Actually, I took two years leave from the BJP for studies. Thereafter, I never desired to go back to the party," he said.

Govindacharya, who is in Dehradun to support G D Agrawal, who is fasting at the hilly township of Uttarkashi against construction of hydel projects on Bhagirathi river, also refused to drag into any controversy regarding the projection of BJP leader L K Advani as the party's prime ministerial candidate.

"I never said I am against Advani being the next prime minister. I am not in a position to chose the next prime minister of India as this is the prerogative of the people and the party," he said.

He also criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister B C Khanduri for maintaining "double standards" on the issue of hydel projects.

"It was Khanduri who opposed Tehri project in Lok Sabha. Now, he is inaugurating and wants hydel projects. These two things are contradictories," he said.

"Our demand is Khanduri must accept the demands of G D Agrawal," he said. Agrawal has been demanding that all the new hydel projects on Bhagirathi should be stopped.
