Ruling People's Democratic Party patron and former chief minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, on Tuesday lambasted Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh for his demand to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution that confers special status to Jammu and Kashmir [Images] and ridiculing the ongoing confidence building measures.

"By such pronouncements, the BJP leader was undermining the very reconciliation process pioneered by the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and carried forward by Dr Manmohan Singh [Images]," Mufti said while addressing party workers in Jammu.

"By such hasty statements, the BJP leadership is doing no good either to the state or to the country," he said, adding, "Instead of playing politics with the peace process, BJP leaders must fully support the UPA government's Kashmir initiatives as was done by the Congress when the NDA government initiated the process."
