Accident: Armymen's kin get Rs 2.52 cr in damages

A local tribunal has awarded Rs 2.52 crore in claim petitions filed by the representatives of Army personnel killed in road accident at Chambalwas on Jammu-Srinagar National highway, sources said.

According to the sources, 24 Army personnel were killed when a State Road Transport Corporation bus rolled down into a 300-meter-deep gorge on the highway due to driver's negligence.

The bus, bearing number JK01Y-0381, was on its way to Srinagar [Images] from Jammu.

Meanwhile, four others, including the driver and the conductor, were injured in the accident.

The relatives of the deceased had filed claim petitions before the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT), Jammu.
