After more evidence of the Students Islamic Movement of India's involvement in the recent blasts came to light, The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday raised the pitch for action against political parties supporting the group and demanded that the Election Commission should take appropriate action against them.

The saffron party also criticised the government for pursuing the ban on SIMI [Images] in a 'casual and negligent manner'.

"The latest affidavit filed by the Central government before the Supreme Court states that over 400 cases have been registered against members of SIMI for indulging in unlawful activities and blasts in various places including the July 26 blasts in Ahmedabad [Images]," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a statement.

Prasad said the affidavit mentions involvement of SIMI in the Mumbai and Malegaon blasts and explains in detail the terrorist training undergone by SIMI leaders in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Despite this, presidents of three political parties which are allies of the Congress, namely, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Lok Janashakti Party and Samajwadi Party, were against a ban on SIMI.
