An Indian woman, who recently came to England [Images], was hammered to death allegedly by her husband in Peterborough in east England.

Chitradevi Chandran (31), was rushed to the District Hospital with serious head injuries on Saturday morning, but was later shifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital where she died on Monday.

According to a post-mortem report, Chandran, who was working as a nurse in the UK, died of severe head injuries.

The deceased's 56-year-old mother who received a serious head injury during the incident was hospitalised and is in a stable condition, police said.

Anburaj Arjunan (31) has been charged with attempt to murder of Chandran and her mother and was produced before the Cambridge Crown Court.

Neighbours described Chandran, who came to England from India three months ago, as "lovely, kind, caring and pretty".

However, the motive behind the murder was not yet known, but investigations are on, the police said.
