A self-styled chief operational commander of al-Burq militant outfit has been killed in an encounter with the Jammu and Kashmir [Images] police at Shiva-Sopore in Baramulla district, police said.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a militant, the police and army cordoned Shiva Sopore area on Sunday, the spokesman said.

He said as the joint search party encircled the specific house where the militant was hiding, the ultras opened fire and in the retaliatory fire one militant was killed. The slain militant was identified as Abu Haider, a self-styled chief operational commander of al-Burq, the spokesman said.
