A letter under the name of Al Qaeda [Images] reached the office of Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, shankaracharya of Puri's Gobardhan Peeth Math, threatening to destroy the math.

"A post card, bearing stamp signs at Haridwar, was written in English. It was received on Tuesday," Manoj Rath, spokesman of the math, told reporters.

Though Rath claimed to have informed the police and the district administration about the letter, superintendent of police Puri Asit Panigrahi said the police had not received any such complaint from the Math.

Rath said the Shankaracharya, away in Ujjain, had been informed about the letter.
