Two personnel of Government Railway Police were killed and seven others, including three pasengers were injured when a group of Naxals attacked the Kathgodam Express at a railway crossing near Sonepur station under East Central Railway on Wednesday.

Police said that a group of Naxals opened fire on the Howrah-bound Kathgodam Express as it reached Sonepur railway satation.

Two personnel of GRP were killed and four others sustained injuries in the incident, police said adding, at least three passengers were also injured in the attack.

Senior police and civil officers rushed to the spot after receiving news of the incident.

Raids were being carried out to nab the Naxals, police said.
