Serving a major blow to the 28th battalion of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam, the Indian Army apprehended the second in command of the battalion, Dibakar Moran in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.

According to a source in the Army, the top leader of the ULFA's 28th battalion, which is most dreaded and highly active in eastern Assam districts, was handed over to the police in Tinsukia district on Saturday.

He was apprehended along with a satellite phone and other modern gadgets from Itanagar two days back. He was an old hand in the banned organization.

Four days back, another senior leader of the same ULFA battalion, Ghanakanta Bora alias Kabin Koirala and his wife, ULFA cadre Tulsi Buragohain alias Archana Phukon and their child who were taking shelter in Kathmandu, surrendered before Indian Army at Laipuli in Tinsukia district of the state.

He was a senior leader who joined the outfit way back in 1986 and underwent training in Myanmar and Bhutan. He was earlier apprehended during Operation All Clear launched by Bhutan Army in the Himalayan kingdom in December, 2003 and later served term in jail in Assam along with his wife.
