A moderate intensity earthquake hit parts of the Uttarakhand early on Monday morning.

The magnitude of the quake was recorded 4.9 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was Gaumukh, north of Uttarkashi, Met Officials said in Dehra Dun.

However, no loss of life and property was reported, officials said.

Two tremors were felt at 0434 am and 0443 am, they said.

The tremors were felt in Uttarkashi, Dehra Dun, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Chamoli and some other parts of the state.

Reports from Uttarkashi said the tremors created cracks in some houses in the area where an earthquake in 1991 killed over 700 people.
