Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has said that he has told his people not to think in terms of history and accept Tibet as a part of China.

"What we demand from the Chinese authority is more autonomy for Tibetans to protect their culture," he told a private television channel in an interview on Monday night.

"I have decided to devote the rest of my life for promotion of human values and protection of human rights and freedom, which had no boundary," the Dalai Lama said, recalling his journey from Lhasa to Arunachal Pradesh via Tawang on mule back in 1959.

"We accept India as a land of Buddha," he said, adding that he had no regret for not getting an opportunity to return to Tibet.

The septuagenarian Buddhist leader denied charges that he was more of a political person than a spiritual leader, and said, "If we go back to history to solve the Sino-India border problem, a lot of complications will arise. The question whether Tibet was part of China or not will have to be then addressed."

He said the then Tibetan government and British India had accepted the Mcmohan line and signed an agreement in 1914 under which the present Arunachal Pradesh became part of India.

He said the Chinese delegation, which participated in the meeting in Shimla, however, did not sign the agreement.
