Two persons were killed and 13 others injured when an improvised explosive device planted by the banned United Liberation Front of Asom went off in the Upper Assam business hub of Tinsukia town at around 6.20 pm on Saturday.

According to a source, the bomb was planted in a motorcycle at the busy chamber road of Tinsukia town in Tinsukia district. The casualty list may go up as the place was crowded at the time of the blast.

Police cordoned off the area immediately after the blast and a manhunt was launched. The army had intensified operation in the Upper Assam district in the wake of recent killings of Hindi-speaking people by the banned militant group.

Meanwhile, police on Saturday claimed to have killed an unidentified ULFA militant in the Garchuk area of Guwahati in the early hours of the morning.
