Most Americans favour woman President

An overwhelming majority of Americans, both men and women are ready for a woman President.

According to a President's Day survey by a cable network, Oxygen, 85 per cent of women and 66 per cent of men said they would vote for a woman President.

Both men and women were of the opinion that a female President can do as good a job as a male President -- 92 per cent and 73 per cent respectively. And, the majority of people polled think that a female President will be more effective than a male President in handling certain presidential duties.

Ninety two per cent of women and 74 per cent of men think a female will be more effective at handling education, 92 per cent of women and 73 per cent of men think a female will be more effective at handling healthcare 87 per cent of women and 72 per cent of men think a female will be more effective at balancing the budget.

Eighty per cent of women and 58 per cent of men think a female will be more effective at handling social security.

The only presidential duty where people thought that a male candidate will be more effective was for military decisions and priorities -- only 36 per cent of women and 14 per cent of men thought that a woman will be more effective at handing those duties.

The only cable network owned and operated by women, Oxygen's Presidential Survey was conducted with 200 women and 200 men by Nielsen Entertainment Research.
