Militants targetted the moderate faction of separatist outfit Hurriyat Conference for the second time in three weeks when they hurled a grenade on the headquarters of the group at Rajbagh locality in Srinagarl ate Wednesday night.

The grenade exploded in the compound, sources said, adding that there had been no damage to life or property.

None of the top Hurriyat leaders was present in the office when the grenade was hurled.

The grenade attack comes in the wake of threats from hardline militant outfits for the statement by Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Umer Farooq during his recent tour to Pakistan. The Mirwaiz had said that separatist violence in Jammu and Kashmir had failed to achieve anything.

Wednesday night's incident came hours before the Mirwaiz and his senior party colleagues Abdul Ghani Bhatta and Bilal Lone, who had gone to Pakistan, returned to Srinagar from New Delhi.

Earlier this month, militants had hurled a grenade near the Mirwaiz's residence in Nijeen Chowk.
