A petition seeking direction to the Centre to take legal action against Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray for allegedly making objectionable comments against President A P J Abdul Kalam, was filed on Thursday in the Delhi high court.

The petition was filed by an organisation named Muslim Yuva Atankvad Virodhi Samiti through their counsel Nawal Kishore Jha, seeking the court's direction to the Home Ministry to initiate legal action against Thackeray.

On January 29, Thackeray had delivered the speech allegedly criticising the President for not disposing of the Afzal case.

Afzal has been awarded the death penalty, confirmed by the Delhi high court and Supreme Court, in the Parliament attack case.

His mercy petition is pending before the President of India.
