Five persons died and two others were injured when a major portion of a five-storey building collapsed in south Mumbai, fire brigade sources said on Saturday.

Three storeys of Chaddha Mansion at Lamington Road collapsed on Friday night and some people were trapped under the debris.

The injured have been admitted to the B Y L Nair hospital.

The deceased, including two women and three children, have been identified as Pratibha Sanjaykumar Oza (30), Malti
Laltaprasad Oza (48), Anjali Sanjaykumar Oza (two and half years), Anushtra Oza (5) and Anuram Oza (7).

Laltaprasad Oza suffered minor injuries.

The building, in dilapidated condition, was declared unsafe by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.

Police said most of the rescue work was over.
