The Union Cabinet on Thursday expressed concern about the flood situation in various states.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] has asked officials to form a concrete plan to help the flood-affected victims.

"We expect a serious discussion about the flood situation in the monsoon session of the Parliament, which begins on Friday. Over 1,500 people have lost their lives," said Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi.

According to a government survey, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra are the worst affected states.

Punjab, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have also been affected.

However, the Centre did not announce an immediate relief package for the flood-hit states. Most of these states have not given a proper account of how earlier funds were utilised.

"A second installment has not been given to Bihar because the state is yet to account for the Rs 500 crore from the calamity relief fund," said Dasmunsi.
