India on Wednesday favoured that Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam continue dialogue to bring peace in the island nation since military solution was not going to yield any results.

"Military solution would not ultimately yield results," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said, while suggesting that LTTE and the Sri Lankan government exercise restraint.

New Delhi had already assured Colombo of all possible assistance which they had sought, Mukherjee told a press conference at the end of 14th SAARC summit.

To a pointed question whether LTTE posed any threat to India, Mukherjee parried a direct reply saying threat perception of a country depended on various circumstances.

Terrorism and terrorist activities were the biggest menace to world peace and tranquility, he said.
