Himanshu, the son of professor Harbhajan Singh [Images] Sabharwal who was allegedly murdered on August 26 during students' union poll-linked violence at the local Madhav College, has launched an offensive against Madhya Pradesh's [Images] ruling Bharatiya Janata Party regime and will campaign for the main opposition Congress in the Vidisha Lok Sabha bypoll.

A Crime Investigation Department inquiry, which followed the murder, registered a case against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's then state president Shashiranjan Singh Akela, then secretary (organisation) Vimal Tomar and four others.

In a letter to the district collector, Himanshu demanded that a public prosecutor of his choice be given the case and he also expressed dissatisfaction with the government probe.

Himanshu has also submitted a petition in the Supreme Court.

"The inquiry was not impartial and several accused went scotfree. I had a discussion with Himanshu and he said he would drum up support for the Congress. However, Himanshu is yet to formally join the Congress," said the party's local president Batuk Shankar Joshi.
