In a statement sent to Tinsukia office of a local vernacular daily immediately after the incident, the militant group claimed that the 'operation was carried out by the C company of its 28 battalion' to avenge the recent killing of its senior leader Charan Majhi in Dibrugarh district.

Senior police and Army officials rushed to the spot after the blast. A massive combing operation was launched to nab the ultras involved in the explosion.
