Political unity must for fighting terror: Musharraf

In the wake of the attack by a suicide bomber on troops training in Dargai that left 35 killed and 40 others injured, President Gen. Pervez Musharraf [Images] has called for political unity to forcefully deal with the twin menace of terrorism and extremism facing the nation.

He told a meeting of Ministers and selected members of Parliament on Wednesday that nation and political forces should work together to eliminate terrorism.

Referring to Wednesday's attack by a suicide bomber on troops training in Dargai in Malakand tribal agency, Musharraf said his government has conviction and resolve to eliminate terrorism.

The meeting discussed the current political situation in the country, state run APP news agency said.

Musharraf said: "Extremism and terrorism are the critical problems facing the nation and we have to deal with it very forcefully."

"Protection of national interest is our priority and the government will take all possible measures in this regard," he added.
