The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed the vice-chancellor of Lucknow University to file an action plan to restore academic activities in the campus.

Hearing a public interest litigation seeking directions to restore academic activities in the university and purge the institution of students with criminal backgrounds, the bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Ajai Kumar Singh also posted the matter for further hearing to December 21.

Earlier, the university and the district authorities filed a compliance report in the court, stating therein that its directions for getting the hostels vacated by December 17 had been implemented.

The court would also hear another petition on Thursday seeking recall of its earlier order on vacating the hostels.

Lucknow University had been closed indefinitely by Vice-Chancellor R P Singh citing his inability to control the lawlessness prevailing on the campus.
