An employee of the Prime Minister's Office has been arrested in connection with a case of alleged embezzlement.

Police arrested Vikas Rana, who is posted as an upper division clerk in the accounts section of the PMO, in connection with the case.

Rana was arrested by Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police as he was the prime suspect in the case, sources said.

Earlier, a case was registered in the Parliament Street Police Station in this matter.

"We received the allegations three/four days ago about the fraud. The matter is being investigated by Economic Offence Wing now," a senior police official said.

As per the FIR filed by Sali Kumar, the under secretary in the accounts department of the PMO, the accused was fraudulently diverting lakhs of rupees from the salaries of four senior officials who had joined the PMO on deputation two years ago but returned to their parent cadre.

The accused allegedly kept on receiving their salaries through fictitious signatures and was able to transfer them to his personal account.

Police also suspect that some other officials in the PMO may be involved in this case.
